FAQs

How often should I change my air filters?

It depends on the size of your air filter, and if you have pets in the house, but once a month is always a safe bet.

In order to determine the right size unit for any given space, a thorough examination of said space has to be done first before making any decisions.

Multiple factors such as insulation, windows, attic space, etc. come into account when making that decision.

Oversized units generally have a shorter lifespan and can leave excess humidity in the air, while undersized units will be running constantly, driving up your utility bills.

It is best to have one of our trained technicians examine your living space to determine what size unit is best for you.

Not always. It’s entirely possible, and common, for an indoor unit to be replaced while the outdoor unit stays as is, and vice versa. The age, and wear and tear of any given unit will come into account when making an educated decision on whether or not to replace them, however.

It is generally recommended to cover your outdoor unit in the winter to prevent debris and / or ice from falling on or inside the unit. However, if you plan on running your unit in winter, or another season for any reason, be sure to keep it uncovered for that time.

There are many factors that can come into play when an air conditioning unit freezes up. It is always best to have a trained technician inspect your unit and diagnose the problem in order to find the correct solution.

Some common problems include, excess dirt preventing proper heat transfer, low refrigerant (possibly due to a leak), among other things.

Getting your units serviced at the start of each season in the spring and fall is a great routine to get into that will increase your system’s lifespan, and ensure everything is running properly. Preventive maintenance is the best form of protection and care for your equipment. The earlier you start regular preventative maintenance on your equipment, the longer they will last!

This is usually due to undersized ductwork, or an oversized system pushing too much air through your ducts. Alternatively, if there are continuous buzzing or humming noises coming from your ductwork or unit, this could be a sign of loose hardware as well.

A zoned system is a heating and / or cooling system that divides a home into multiple zones, and uses dampers or electronic valves to control the air / liquid flow to independent areas of a structure. This allows you to set different temperatures for each room, which can improve comfort and energy efficiency.

A properly zoned house can save up to 33% on heating costs!

Change your air filters regularly if you have a forced hot air system, vacuum, and dust regularly, and if you have any pets be sure to clean up after them as well. These are some of the most common sources of poor air quality in homes.

You can check the manufacturing plate on the inside of your units and locate the manufacturing date. If it was made within the last 3-5 years, you may still be eligible for a warranty from the manufacturer.

NOTE: Time ranges vary for different manufacturers.

Have your air filters changed regularly, ensure your outdoor unit is cleaned at least once a year, and have your units serviced at the start of each season. Additionally, ensuring your units are properly sized to your home is pivotal in a long and healthy life for your equipment. Practicing all these preventative measures greatly increases your expected lifespan of all things HVAC.
